New LEPAS SUV Signals Ambitious Expansion Plans

By James Stinson

LEPAS has revealed full UK pricing and specification for its all-new L8, a plug-in hybrid SUV, that will spearhead the brand’s arrival here later this year.

Prices will start from just £34,900, rising to £37,900 for the range-topping L8 Elevate. Positioned in the competitive D-segment SUV class, the newcomer will be available in two trim levels – Essence and Elevate – with customer pre-orders opening in July ahead of first deliveries in September.

The L8 arrives with a clear focus on technology, comfort and electrified efficiency, while also carrying the responsibility of introducing an entirely new automotive brand to UK buyers.

Hybrid power and long-range credentials

At launch, every L8 will be powered by LEPAS’ Super Hybrid System, which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission and an 18.4kWh battery pack.

The figures are certainly eye-catching. LEPAS claims an electric-only driving range of up to 56 miles, while the combined driving range stretches to as much as 745 miles. The battery is also capable of DC fast charging, allowing a 30 to 80 per cent recharge in as little as 20 minutes.

Official fuel economy is quoted at up to 403.5mpg, while CO₂ emissions of 21g/km place the SUV among the cleanest plug-in hybrids on sale.

A fully electric version of the L8 is already planned and is scheduled to join the range in 2027.

Premium ambitions

Visually, the L8 has been designed to make an impression. LEPAS says the vehicle draws inspiration from the leopard, with flowing bodywork, muscular proportions and a distinctive front-end design featuring a large diamond-pattern grille and slim LED lighting signatures.

Essence models ride on 19-inch alloy wheels, while the higher-spec Elevate adopts larger 20-inch wheels for a more assertive stance.

Inside, the L8 aims to combine family-friendly practicality with premium touches. Built on the company’s LEX platform, it boasts a generous 2,800mm wheelbase, helping create particularly impressive rear passenger accommodation.

All versions feature a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, remote engine start and a 13.2-inch central touchscreen with integrated navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and 4G connectivity are also standard.

More luxury in Elevate trim

The entry-level Essence specification already appears well equipped, but buyers wanting a more premium experience will be drawn towards the Elevate.

The flagship model adds a hands-free powered tailgate, heated windscreen and front seats that offer heating, ventilation and massage functions. Acoustic glazing for the front windows and active engine noise cancellation are also included to enhance refinement.

Elsewhere, Elevate models gain a 256-colour ambient lighting system, an integrated fragrance feature and an upgraded Sony eight-speaker audio system.

Safety a key selling point

Safety technology is extensive across the range. All L8 models feature autonomous emergency braking, emergency lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and intelligent speed limit control.

The SUV also comes equipped with up to 10 airbags.

Elevate versions build on this with additional parking technology, including a 540-degree camera system, advanced parking assistance and remote parking functionality that allows the vehicle to manoeuvre into or out of a space while the driver remains outside.

Pricing and warranty

The LEPAS L8 Essence is priced from £34,900 on-the-road, while the range-topping L8 Elevate starts from £37,900.

Both models are backed by a seven-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty, alongside an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the high-voltage battery.

On paper, the L8 brings a generous level of equipment, impressive hybrid range figures and competitive pricing. The challenge now will be convincing British buyers to take a chance on a newcomer in one of the market’s most fiercely contested SUV segments. If it can deliver on its promises in the real world, the L8 could prove an intriguing new alternative to more established rivals.
