Machala says that being shortlisted for the award recognises the excellent hospitality service the whole Sodexo catering team offer to guests at The National Football Stadium. “We take pleasure in using the best of Belfast’s locally sourced produce to come up with new ideas for our seasonal menus. The stadium is a busy venue and we take pride in making sure that the people who come to Windsor Park, whether it’s for a match or non-matchday event, conference, exhibition or a wedding enjoy our first-class modern cuisine.”
Machala, who moved to Northern Ireland from Austria at the age of 12, set up his Café Strudel in 2008 with his wife Sharon to give people in Bangor a taste of Austria. His apple strudel is said to be one of County Down’s best-kept secrets. The two met when Machala was training to a be a chef and together went on to open the award-winning Strudel Bistro.
