Leading Irish renewables developer, Strategic Power Projects, has appointed Robin McCormick as a Board Advisor. A highly-respected senior executive, McCormick was previously General Manager and Chairman of SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland) – the organisation responsible for operating and developing Northern Ireland’s high voltage electricity transmission network – playing a key role in facilitating renewable energy generation across the region.

In the EirGrid Group he was Director, Operations, Planning & Innovation responsible for the DS3 programme enabling the all-island power system to meet the challenges of decarbonisation.
In his new role Robin will use his expertise and experience in the energy sector and delivery of complex infrastructure projects to advise Strategic Power Projects on grid solutions and market operations.
Having retired from the EirGrid Group in 2020, Robin is currently a Senior Advisor to PwC Middle East and Chairperson of leading energy consultancy TNEI Ireland.
Paul Carson, Managing Director, Strategic Power Projects said:
“Partnering with Robin allows us to build on a powerful combination of knowledge and experience. Having held senior roles in both SONI and EirGrid Group, he is perfectly placed to advise on renewable energy and infrastructure development across the island of Ireland.
“These are critical times for renewable energy in Ireland as we strive to shape a sustainable energy future. More importantly, energy security has gained prominence while we bear witness to a brutal war in Europe. Our foreign energy dependence must be re-thought and the pursuit of renewable energy must be re-doubled.
“2021 was a very important year for Strategic Power Projects growth. We announced our partnership with specialist alternative asset manager Gresham House and were delighted with the outcome in recent planning and grid connection applications.
“We look forward to working with Robin and continuing to harness government and community support to create impactful renewable energy assets that will make a real difference and continue to move the country towards a carbon neutral economy.
Robin McCormick added:
“Over recent years Strategic Power Projects has quickly established itself as one of the leading developers of sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
“I am incredibly encouraged by their growing pipeline of projects and their dedication to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure transparency and a thorough understanding of what solar and battery assets will achieve for a brighter and cleaner future in Ireland.
“I am excited to join the business and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition and the delivery of new projects, particularly those required to meet our renewable electricity targets.
