The owner of an independent off-licence in Castle Archdale, Co. Fermanagh has not only taken delivery of the first bottles of ‘Captain Sir Tom’s Gin’ to go on sale locally but has secured the exclusive rights to sell the gin in Northern Ireland.

The London Dry Gin which was developed in partnership with Captain Sir Tom Moore by the Otterbeck Distillery in his home County of Yorkshire, was launched at the end of 2020. Otterbeck is making a donation to The Captain Tom Foundation for every bottle sold.

When Catherine Maguire who owns the Vineyard off-licence in Castle Archdale heard about the launch of the gin she contacted the distillery with the view to stocking it in her store.

“Given the very high esteem that Captain Sir Tom is held in nationally and internationally I knew that the gin would be very popular. I had customers enquiring about it, all wanting to own a bottle of this very special gin. The Distillery were very pleased to receive our approach and immediately recognised our enthusiasm for the product. We are absolutely delighted to have secured exclusivity for Northern Ireland and, in a small way, to be playing our part in supporting The Captain Tom Foundation”.

The creation of this very special gin came through a meeting between Captain Sir Tom Moore and Otterbeck Distillery co-founder Dougie Lampkin MBE. Tom first met twelve-time Motorcycle Trials World Champion Dougie whilst making the ITV film, ‘A Day in the life of Captain Tom.’ They discovered a mutual passion for the Yorkshire Dales and vintage motorbikes and a great friendship was forged. The war veteran was keen to see Dougie’s collection of bikes at his home and took the chance to visit the Distillery, founded by Dougie, his wife Nicola and friends. Captain Sir Tom joked he’d like to have his own gin one day – and after many a taste test and reminiscence about his childhood growing up in Yorkshire – the gin was born: a gin to celebrate family and friendships.

Commenting on Captain Sir Tom’s Gin’s arrival in Northern Ireland Nicola Lampkin, Co-Founder of Otterbeck Distillery said –

“We are thrilled that the good people of Fermanagh and wider afield will now be able to enjoy this fine gin. We are a small distillery and this is a limited edition product and because of that we did not actively seek to secure distribution in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. When Catherine approached us however, it was clear that she was really enthusiastic about the product and the charity it seeks to support and we are delighted to be working with her. Captain Sir Tom captured the imagination of the world and we’re proud to have distilled a very special gin with a very special man.”

Captain Sir Tom’s Gin is available in store at The Vineyard, Castle Archdale at £35.95 and online at www.castlearchdaless.com
