Derry-Londonderry based eatery, Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill, has been named in Sunday Times’ Ireland’s 100 Best Restaurants 2019. The coveted list published by John and Sally McKenna features eight Northern Ireland premises.

Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill is a partnership between Raymond Moran and local entrepreneur Ciaran O’Neill, Managing Director of the award-winning Bishop’s Gate Hotel.  Nestled inside Derry’s Walls in the heart of the Craft Village the charming eatery is open from Thursday to Sunday and serves lunch and dinner.

Discussing the achievement Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill’s Head Chef Raymond Moran says:

“The Sunday Times’ 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland is iconoclastic – it includes food carts, beachside shacks, and tiny rooms, as well as grand theatres for eating – and the list has consistently interpreted and defined what modern, creative Irish cooking is, and what it can achieve.

“The seasonal menus at Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill feature both classic and contemporary dishes.  The Soda & Starch experience is underpinned by a passion for using high quality, seasonal ingredients from carefully sourced local suppliers to create delicious authentic cuisine, rooted in Irish cooking traditions and accompanied by huge helpings of our infamous hospitality!   We consistently strive to delight our patrons and it is really encouraging to have our offering recognised in this way.”

Explaining what the listing means to the business Ciaran O’Neill, Entrepreneur and Managing Director of the boutique Bishop’s Gate Hotel adds:

“Since 1992, when the very first Sunday Times’ list appeared, John and Sally McKenna have celebrated, championed and offered critical analysis of restaurants throughout Ireland.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill made it onto The Sunday Times’ 100 Best Restaurants in Ireland 2019 list. There is fierce competition in the hospitality sector, and chefs are always pushing themselves and their teams to innovate, to create new dishes and explore new combinations of flavours that surprise and delight.

“The fact that Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill is the only eatery in the city to feature means that we’re also helping to showcase what Derry-Londonderry has to offer to ‘foodies’, tourists and visitors who use the list as a guide when selecting places to visit.”

Soda & Starch Pantry and Grill specialises in seafood and steaks. The menu appeals to ‘foodies’ who love tantalising, wholesome Northern Ireland cooking.
