BGF has made a donation of £12,500 to the Northern Ireland Hospice as part of an initiative to support charities that help vulnerable groups across the UK and Ireland. The company, which is the UK and Ireland’s most active investor in small and medium sized companies, is donating a total of £100,000 to support eight community-based charities across the regions in which it operates, as a response to the coronavirus pandemic.

As a regional business, active in different local economies, BGF recognises the need for increased support to local charities, many of whom are operating without the safety nets of their broader networks. It is estimated that fundraising for UK charities may fall as much as 40% in 2020.

Northern Ireland Hospice is a local charity offering specialist respite, symptom management and end of life palliative care to 4,000 babies, children and adults in Northern Ireland every year.

Mary McCall, from Northern Ireland Hospice said: “Like many other charitable organisations providing essential services in the community, NI Hospice has seen increased pressure on funding as a result of the coronavirus. We welcome this generous donation from BGF. Every donation we receive, large and small, makes an enormous difference in helping us provide vital care and support to patients and their families.”

Patrick Graham, Head of BGF for Northern Ireland and Central Scotland, said the decision had been taken to support organisations that represent vulnerable groups.

“Covid-19 has created immense challenges for charities that provide vital support to vulnerable groups within our local community, such as Northern Ireland Hospice. We recognise that, with the support of our shareholders, BGF is in a fortunate position to be able to extend our charitable donations. We hope this funding will help support the valuable work done by Northern Ireland Hospice to help families who are going through very difficult times.”
