Northern Ireland’s largest independent travel agency, Oasis Travel, is preparing to take on the gruelling PedalThePeriphery cycling challenge this summer to raise vital funds and awareness for the Northern Ireland Pancreatic Cancer charity (NIPANC).
Taking place from 5 -7 June 2026, the charity endurance event will see the biggest-ever team from Oasis Travel – 24 members attempt to cycle 480 miles, around the perimeter of Northern Ireland, in just 48 hours, braving challenging terrain, unpredictable weather and little sleep along the way.
This will mark the third time Oasis Travel has taken part in PedalThePeriphery, following a successful 2024 and 2025 effort which saw colleagues complete the route and, over the two years, raise more than £25,000 for NIPANC.
The challenge carries a deeply personal meaning for those taking part, with ten members of the Oasis Travel wider family personally affected by pancreatic cancer, including former Financial Director Gary Corkin, who passed away in 2020 following his diagnosis. The challenge is being undertaken in Gary’s memory and in support of everyone connected to the organisation who has been impacted by the disease, making it a shared mission for those involved.
Since then, Oasis Travel has remained a committed supporter of NIPANC, with Managing Director Scott McCabe honoured to accept a position on the charity’s Board earlier this year.
Speaking ahead of the challenge, Scott McCabe said: “PedalThePeriphery is a tough challenge, but one we’re incredibly proud to take on again as a team. From first-time cyclists to more experienced riders, it’s a real collective effort, not just from those on the bikes, but from the wider Oasis team and supporters who help us along the way.
“It means a great deal to us, not only because of our connection to NIPANC, but because this is the charity’s flagship fundraising event and one we’re honoured to be part of.”
Reflecting on the personal importance of the cause, he added:
“Pancreatic cancer has had a profound impact on our team and our wider Oasis family. Supporting NIPANC and helping to raise awareness is something we feel very strongly about. We’re looking forward to getting back on the road this June and doing everything we can to make a difference.”
Cathy Booth, Founder of PedalThePeriphery and Trustee at NIPANC, added:
“We are deeply grateful to Scott and the Oasis Travel team for once again stepping up to the PedalThePeriphery challenge in support of NIPANC. Their incredible dedication and energy are helping to fund vital services, while shining a powerful spotlight on pancreatic cancer and the urgent need to improve awareness, support and outcomes for those impacted by this devastating illness”
Oasis Travel will share updates on the team’s preparations and fundraising efforts in the lead-up to the Pedal the Periphery challenge in June and is encouraging customers, friends and the wider community to get behind the effort and support the cause.
