One of Northern Ireland’s best known chefs has joined forces with a newly registered charity and a host of local social influencers to launch the first ever DIGG Breakfast to raise funds to support children and families facing poverty and hardship across the province this Christmas and throughout 2024.
Niall McKenna of Waterman House and Cookery School has given his support to the initiative from DIGG Deep for Kids and held a breakfast event to put some of Northern Ireland’s favourite personalities from social media through their paces to help raise awareness of The DIGG Breakfast which is taking place on Wednesday 6th December.
Schools, organisations, businesses and individuals across Northern Ireland are being urged to organise their own DIGG Breakfast to help raise money for this year’s campaign which is in aid of the Simon Community, St Vincent de Paul and Cash for Kids.
It is part of the annual DIGG Deep for Kids Christmas fundraising initiative which has raised over £460,000 since 2019 and helped provide food, heating and electricity for families facing poverty and hardship and gifts for children who would otherwise wake up on Christmas day without one.
Caroline O’Neill, Founder of DIGG Deep for Kids said: “We are delighted to launch the 2023 DIGG Deep for Kids campaign and as part of this we are encouraging people across Northern Ireland to get involved and hold their own DIGG Breakfast to help raise much-needed funds. In Northern Ireland, 80,000 children are living in poverty. This is heart-breaking and we all need to do what we can to help.
The money raised will help support local people in our own communities across the St Vincent de Paul, Simon Community and Cash for Kids networks. So get together with your school, organisation, business, sports group or your friends and family on Wednesday 6th December to hold a breakfast and help us provide the help to those who need it this Christmas.”
Niall McKenna of Waterman House said: “I’m proud to support the inaugural DIGG Breakfast to help raise awareness of this fantastic fundraising initiative. It is a great example of what we can achieve if we come together as a community to help others. I’m encouraging everyone to get together to hold their own breakfast event – every donation, no matter how small, will help make a big difference and give hope to others this Christmas.”
