The Institute of Directors (NI) has launched a major new report calling for action on infrastructure investment in Northern Ireland.
The report, prepared alongside partners Gravis Planning, Danske Bank, SONI and KPMG, sets out a major programme of reforms designed to unlock economic potential, accelerate sustainable development and strengthen the region’s long-term competitiveness.
This report addresses many of the concerns regularly raised by Northern Ireland’s business leaders – not least slow and inconsistent planning decisions, uncertainty around infrastructure and a lack of stable investment signals.
The plan highlights three key priority recommendations;
- Establishing an independent Infrastructure Commission for Northern Ireland
- Appointing a dedicated Planning Champion
- Commission an Independent Expert review of alternative arrangements into funding water infrastructure

The IoD report has been backed by a number of leading business figures, including Belfast-born Mike Brown, former Commissioner for Transport in London.
