Nissan Micra EV Now Eligible For Full £3,750 Grant

By James Stinson

Nissan has given its all-new electric Micra a timely boost, confirming that extended-range versions of the revitalised supermini now qualify for the full £3,750 UK Electric Car Grant. The change significantly sharpens the Micra’s value proposition just weeks before the first customer deliveries begin.

The news applies to the Micra 52kWh, which now benefits from a Europe-sourced battery that meets the criteria for the higher grant threshold. As a result, the longerrange model is priced from £23,245 including the government incentive, bringing it firmly into contention for buyers looking to make the switch to electric without stepping up to a larger – or more expensive – car.

Better Value for the Longer-Range Model

Until now, the Micra 52kWh sat at an awkward middle ground in the electric supermini market, offering a competitive driving range but without access to the full grant. That hurdle has now been removed, and Nissan has confirmed that both existing and new customer orders will benefit from the higher discount.

The 52kWh version offers a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 257 miles on a single charge, making it a more realistic option for drivers who need flexibility beyond urban and suburban use. For many buyers, that extra range could mean fewer charging stops and greater confidence when travelling further afield.

Nissan has also used the opportunity to revise its personal contract purchase offers, with lower monthly payments now available on 52kWh variants. While pricing will always depend on deposit and term, the headline reduction underlines Nissan’s intent to keep Micra accessible despite rising costs elsewhere in the EV market.

A New Chapter for a Familiar Name

The sixthgeneration Micra represents a major shift for a nameplate with more than six million global sales under its belt. Built exclusively as a battery-electric model and produced at Nissan’s ElectriCity hub in northern France, the new Micra is designed to play a key role in the brand’s broader electrification push in Europe.

Styling marks a clear evolution from previous generations, with a more assertive stance and contemporary detailing intended to appeal to younger buyers and urban drivers. The compact footprint remains, but Nissan is keen to position Micra as more than just basic transport, blending everyday usability with a more premium feel than earlier iterations.

Tech-Forward, City-Focused

Inside, the Micra leans heavily on connected technology. Google Built-in features prominently, bringing Google Maps, Assistant and access to a wide range of apps directly into the infotainment system without the need for phone mirroring. NissanConnect Services add remote functions via a smartphone app, allowing owners to check charging status, pre-condition the cabin or locate the vehicle.

Practicality remains a priority, but space will inevitably be tighter than in larger electric hatchbacks, particularly in the rear. For households seeking a single doeverything car, that may be a compromise too far, though for city-led lifestyles the Micra’s dimensions should prove easy to live with.

Two Batteries, Two Price Points

Alongside the 52kWh version, Nissan continues to offer a 40kWh Micra priced from £21,495 including the lower £1,500 Electric Car Grant. With a range of up to 196 miles, it’s clearly aimed at urban drivers who prioritise affordability over long-distance capability.

That dual-battery strategy gives buyers a clear choice, though it also highlights one of Micra’s challenges. Competition in the electric supermini segment is intensifying, and while pricing is keen, rivals increasingly offer rapid charging and interior space advantages that some shoppers may value more.

On Sale Now, Deliveries Imminent

With first UK customer deliveries imminent, the Micra EV enters the market at an opportune moment. Grant eligibility remains a decisive factor for many buyers, and full access to the £3,750 incentive makes the longerrange Micra significantly easier to justify.
