Balmoral Golf Club’s Ballylesson Move Takes Another Step Forward

A major new addition to Northern Ireland’s golfing landscape has taken an important step forward, as a public consultation begins for the proposed new championship golf course at the Newgrove estate on the Ballylesson Road south of the city. The consultation event on the 18th June, facilitated by Merrion Property Group, invites local residents, stakeholders, and the wider community to view the proposals and share their feedback.

The new 18-hole championship golf course will be designed by DP World Tour golfer, 2014 Ryder Cup Captain and International Golf Course Architect- Paul McGinley. The design is underpinned by a commitment to complement and enhance the natural landscape of the Ballylesson site and will drape over the existing natural contours and topography throughout the 149-acre site. The new course features:

  • A championship-standard layout capable of hosting competitive events
  • A sustainable approach aligned with Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) accreditation from inception
  • A balance of challenge and accessibility for golfers of all levels

This forward-thinking design ensures the course will meet the expectations of modern players while preserving the traditions and integrity of the game.

Complementing the course will be a sensitively restored and enhanced clubhouse at New Grove House. Together, the course and clubhouse will establish a distinctive new identity for Balmoral Golf Club which honours the heritage of the club while positioning it for long-term success.

Robert Conan, CEO of the Merrion Property Group said:

“We have been working in partnership with the members of Balmoral Golf Club to facilitate a planned, smooth relocation to this new site. This consultation reflects our commitment to a transparent and inclusive approach to protecting both the future of Balmoral Golf Club and the environmental and historically significant landscape in Ballylesson.

“This project will deliver golfing, economic, environmental and social benefits and represents a significant investment in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area, supporting regional growth and aligning with local tourism and community strategies. Balmoral Golf Club in its new location will contribute hugely to Northern Ireland’s reputation as a premier global golf tourist destination.

“This consultation process is a vital part of the project’s development. Feedback gathered during the event and through the dedicated consultation website will directly inform the final proposals submitted to Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

“This project is borne out of partnership and is built on sustainable relationships with Balmoral Golf Club and the local Ballylesson community.”

For more information or to provide feedback, members of the public can visit the project website ballylessonroad.consultationonline.co.uk and attend a public consultation on Thursday 18th June in Ballylesson Church, between 2pm – 7pm.  The closing date for feedback is Thursday 16th July at 5pm
