Ulster Hockey is hosting the first in a series of events aimed at the business and sports sectors to showcase themes common to both. Part of its new Club 1896 networking forum, the breakfast event centred around resilience will feature Irish international hockey player Matthew Bell sharing his remarkable journey back to sport following a brain tumour diagnosis in 2019.

Matthew will discuss the challenges he faced throughout his illness and the goal he worked so hard to achieve in returning to the hockey pitch, where he once again competes.

‘In Conversation with Matthew Bell: a story of resilience’ will take place at Legacy Wealth Management in Belfast’s Chichester Street at 8am on Friday 23rd February, with the Q&A session hosted by broadcaster Denise Watson.

Marc Scott, CEO of Ulster Hockey comments: “The whole purpose of Club 1896 is to encourage new conversations, partnerships and connections. Matthew is an incredible speaker to join us for the first of our networking events in 2024. His tenacity, strength and positivity are themes everyone can relate to and feel inspired by and I believe that representatives from the business community and fellow sportspeople will find this conversation absolutely captivating.”

Club 1896 is a membership forum aimed at encouraging new commercial partnerships whilst creating valuable financial support for the development of hockey. Members gain access to an annual calendar of speaker and panel-led networking events, with four more planned throughout 2024 including a gala lunch in September.
