The Lord-Lieutenant of the County Borough of Belfast, Mrs Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle CBE has appointed three new Deputy Lieutenants (DLs) for Belfast. Jane Wells, Alan Logan and Walter Rader OBE were commissioned on 24th May 2019.

Welcoming the new DLs, the Lord Lieutenant said, “I am very proud to have these new additions to our Belfast team and I know that each has a major contribution to make. Jane Wells, Events and PR Director at JComms brings vast experience in all aspects of PR and was the first woman in Northern Ireland to receive a Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of PR. Alan Logan was until recently the distinguished Headmaster of The Boys’ Model School and Walter Rader OBE is the NI representative for The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.”

Deputy Lieutenants are appointed by the Lord Lieutenant to support her and the work of the Belfast Lieutenancy, and when appropriate to act as the personal representatives of Her Majesty The Queen in The County Borough of Belfast.

Aside from royal duties the Lieutenancy aims to promote and encourage voluntary and charitable organisations as well as taking an interest in the business, urban and rural and social life of the City.

The Deputy Lieutenant appointment, which is a voluntary role, continues until the age of 75 at which they then retire by statute.

There are now twenty-four Deputy Lieutenants in the County Borough of Belfast.
