The Hastings family was asked to give Eoin something that was close to Sir William’s heart and after some thought, Lady Hastings decided upon a piece of Mourne Granite to reflect her late husband’s love of the famous County Down mountains.
Eoin presented Lady Joy and daughter Julie with a stunning lamp which has been inspired by the shape of the Mourne Mountains with a base made of wood from the Belfast Docks.
Lady Joy Hastings said: “We were delighted when RTE approached us to ask if they could organise a bespoke tribute to Billy in the first series of Strictly Business. I knew straightaway that he would’ve loved to support the initiative given his strong entrepreneurial spirit and the fact that he spent a lot of time over the years mentoring young business people across Hastings Hotels and the wider tourism industry.”
“I enjoyed meeting Eoin and his young family and we spent time chatting about the inspiration behind the lamp he created which now takes pride of place in the Sir William Hastings Suite in the Grand Central Hotel,” Lady Hastings continued.
