Novosco, a CANCOM company, has made a significant investment in a dedicated security operations centre in Belfast and created 12 new jobs to operate it.   The new centre, based at the IT managed services company’s headquarters in Catalyst Inc, will enable the firm to provide specialist IT security services to organisations across the UK and Ireland.

The investment of more than half a million pounds includes the creation of the state-of-the-art, highly secure facility, and the training and recruitment of the 12 dedicated team members.

The new recruits – who have recently graduated from a specialist cyber security academy run by Belfast Metropolitan College in conjunction with Novosco – will provide services including monitoring and analysis of clients’ IT systems to preempt and prevent security risks and attacks.

The centre will be manned 24 hours per day, seven days per week, working for clients including Cambridge University Hospitals Trust, which Novosco won a £107m contract with last year.

Managing Director John Lennon says that it is strategically a very important project for the company. “Cyber security is at the forefront of the minds of businesses and organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors. It is business critical that these organisations secure, protect and monitor their IT systems to prevent breaches that could have very significant repercussions,” he says.

“We have invested significantly in the capital infrastructure, the technology, and the people to make sure that we have an offering that meets the requirements of organisations with complex and sophisticated cyber security needs,” he adds.

“Part of this was setting up a cyber security academy with Belfast Met to train dedicated security analysts to run the new centre. As a result, we have some of the most expert and best-trained analysts in the UK and Ireland,” he adds.
