IB has announced a specialist auction of a rare collection of old Provincial Bank, Allied Irish Bank and First Trust Bank notes to raise money for two local charities – Age NI and Alzheimer’s Society.   Working with Dix Noonan Webb (DNW), the UK’s leading specialist auctioneers and valuers of rare coins and paper money, the collection with a face value of £73,715 is expected to raise in excess of six figures from notaphilists from across the world.

The auction which will take place at 1pm this Thursday 12th March 2020, in DNW’s London auction room. Bids will be received both online and in person.

Speaking about the initiative, Heather Stewart, Head of Sales & Service Enablement at AIB said;

“With a long and proud history of supporting the Northern Ireland community, AIB (formerly First Trust Bank), is delighted to bring forward for auction its banknote archive in the hope and anticipation that it will raise significant money for two local charities – namely Age NI and Alzheimer’s Society. Both these charities do sterling work supporting many people in need and we look forward to sharing the proceeds of this important auction to help them deliver their services.”

Speaking about the collection Thomasina Smith, Auctioneer and Specialist, Dix Noonan Webb added;

“We are very excited to offer this unique and fascinating collection of archive material from AIB (formerly First Trust Bank). Regardless of whether your collecting area includes the more modern series or not, the material on offer gives a fascinating insight into the printing processes and evolution of the Bank’s paper money before it ceased issuing in 2019. We hope that all our collectors will enjoy looking though this collection as much as we have enjoyed handling, cataloguing and learning from it.”

“AIB has very kindly agreed that agreed that proceeds from this sale will be split between Age NI and the Alzheimer’s Society and we would like to thank everyone at the bank for helping us organise this special event, and for their generosity towards two exceptionally worthy causes.”
