The first locally owned recruitment companies in Northern Ireland to be awarded the Diversity and Inclusion Chartermark, say progress in equality in the workplace must be accelerated. Louise Smyth MD of MCS Group, says organisations and firms which ignore the growing calls for diversity and inclusion in the workplace will be left behind.

“There is no room for sentimentality in business and when MCS Group committed to achieving the Diversity and Inclusion Chartermark it was based on our recognition that the world is changing rapidly and that working and recruitment practices are slow to catch up,” says Ms Smyth.

“We want MCS Group to be ahead of the curve and to help client companies adopt the best practices to help them achieve their corporate objectives. By securing the Chartermark we can now offer these companies and organisations added insight and valuable foresight for their survival and development plans.

“To secure this Chartermark an organisation must go through a process of education and adjustment to help it better understand that equality, diversity and inclusion are essential to the success of a business. I would recommend it to every business leader in the country,” she says.

MCS Group employs 52 people across its specialist divisions and Honeycomb its sister company employs 10. Staff in both companies are now being trained to deliver Diversity and Inclusion Chartermark training to their clients and candidates.

Operated by Legal Island, the Chartermark has already been undertaken by dozens of firms and organisations across Northern Ireland.

Legal Island Chairman Barry Phillips says commitment to the process of completing the Chartermark is a sign of an ambitious and healthy business.

“MCS and Honeycomb are the very first recruitment companies in Northern Ireland to be awarded the Legal Island Diversity and Inclusion Charter Mark. They clearly understand the importance of Diversity and Inclusion in the work that they do. Their range of D&I activities for their own staff as well as out in the wider community is very impressive,” says Mr Phillips.

“They are beginning to stand out as the go- to recruitment firms in NI for employers and employees alike who appreciate the importance of D&I and how it benefits not only job seekers but businesses in general here.”

“It says a lot about MCS and Honeycomb that even in a recession and amongst all this disruption they not only continued with their D&I work but actually developed it further. This isn’t window dressing. This is D&I in their D&A,” he says.

MCS Group specialises in identifying and placing professionals in IT & Digital, Technical & Engineering, Accounting & Finance, Sales & Marketing and HR & Legal positions, while Honeycomb focuses on Business Support.

Louise Smyth says: “Our focus is on creating opportunities for everyone. We support employers in building high performing businesses by connecting them with the most talented candidates in the market. We help professionals develop their careers by understanding their aspirations and connecting them to the best job opportunities in the market.”
