Maxol, Northern Ireland’s leading family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer has been highly commended at the annual Forecourt Trader Awards 2022 for their programme to deliver sustainable change across the business. The commendation was presented to Maxol at a glittering ceremony held in London and hosted by celebrity footballing pundits Ray Stubbs and Mark Lawrenson ahead of the forthcoming World Cup.

The Forecourt Trader Awards recognises, rewards and celebrates fuel retailers across the UK whose entrepreneurial skills and talent push boundaries and innovate to earn a deserved reputation for excellence in the forecourt retailing community.

Maxol were highly commended for their Sustainability Programme in the Oil Company Initiative Award which comes as the business is preparing to open Northern Ireland’s first dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) hub at Maxol Kinnegar in Holywood. The EV hub will provide the highest charge currently available to the public in NI.

Brian Donaldson, CEO of The Maxol Group, said: “I am delighted Maxol has been recognised for our ongoing commitment to reducing our impact on the environment. We have incorporated sustainability right across our business practices whether it’s seeking sustainable or more environmentally friendly options where possible, reducing waste, lowering our energy use, utilising renewable resources and working on alternative fuels such as EV’s and hydrogen.

“Our re-development at Maxol Kinnegar is part of a broader five-year investment programme that is trialling cutting-edge technology and innovation to create the blueprint for forecourt developments across the Maxol estate. From the design and construction through to the site’s ongoing operations covering fuel, grocery and convenience, the guiding principle is to use technology to create a measurably different service station that will enable Maxol to reduce the site’s existing carbon footprint by up to 40%.

“This commendation follows another remarkable year for Maxol marked by the continued resilience of our customers and all of our people who are at the heart of what drives this 102-year-old, family-owned business forward. I am delighted and enormously proud of our achievements.”
