A number of firmus energy employees have racked up a total of 288 miles as they took part in the Belfast Virtual Marathon in support of their charity of the year – Air Ambulance NI. Staff, who completed the challenge over the month of June, worked as a team to build up their miles and raised £400 in the process.

Air Ambulance NI provides pre-hospital critical care to patients across Northern Ireland whose lives are at serious risk following significant injury or trauma. The charity, along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, provides the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) which can get to any location in Northern Ireland in approximately 25 minutes, with interventions at scene that can dramatically increase chances of patient survival.

To date, firmus energy has raised £1,500 for its Charity of the Year through a series of internal activities including; Pancake Tuesday, Northern Lights Run, bake sales and raffles.

Rochelle Magee, firmus energy’s charity ambassador, said:

“The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in many unprecedented challenges for charities, particularly from a fundraising perspective. Like many others, Air Ambulance NI has seen its income severely impacted by the crisis. On average the charity needs to raise £2 million a year to continue to provide its lifesaving services.

“Once we established a safe way to carry out fundraising activities, we were keen to engage as many employees as possible. We are delighted that so many of our employees got on board with this challenge.”

Head of Fundraising at Air Ambulance, Kerry Anderson, added:

“We are grateful for the commitment of firmus energy employees to continue raising funds, especially during such a difficult time. To ensure we continue to sustain our life saving service, we rely heavily on donations. The funds raised by firmus energy to date will help cover the cost of fuel and helicopter provision and will potentially save someone’s life.”
