SuperValu & Centra Mark 25,000 Trees Milestone

Community retailers SuperValu and Centra, part of the Musgrave Group, are once again inviting local groups to apply for free native trees as part of their longstanding partnership with Trees on the Land, the charity and not-for-profit initiative dedicated to increasing native tree cover across the island of Ireland.

The initiative has now reached a significant milestone, with 25,000 native trees planted across Northern Ireland since its launch, helping to create greener, more biodiverse spaces in communities, schools, sports clubs, community gardens and on farmland.

As the programme continues to grow, SuperValu and Centra remain committed to their pledge to plant 50,000 native trees by 2032, with applications now open for the next round of free tree packs.

Groups located within a five-mile radius of a SuperValu or Centra store can apply for up to 250 native trees. Successful applicants will receive their trees during the forthcoming planting season, helping them transform local spaces while supporting biodiversity and climate action in their communities.

Community groups can apply online at www.treesontheland.com/supervalu-centra-tree-project.

The initiative forms part of Musgrave’s wider sustainability commitments and supports local communities in creating lasting environmental benefits for future generations.

Carol Marshall, Brand Communications Manager for SuperValu and Centra in Northern Ireland, said:

“Reaching 25,000 trees planted is a fantastic milestone and demonstrates the positive impact that can be achieved when communities come together around a shared goal. Through our partnership with Trees on the Land, we are proud to support local groups in creating greener spaces that will benefit people, wildlife and the environment for years to come.

“These trees play an important role in enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, protecting soil health and capturing carbon. We would encourage community groups to take advantage of this opportunity and apply for a free tree pack to support their own sustainability projects.”

Among the organisations to benefit from the initiative in recent years are Carrickfergus Academy, Bushmills and District Community Association,  Antrim Primary School and Newtownbutler First Fermanagh GAA and St Aidan’s High School in Derrylin.

Imogen Rabone, Founder and Project Co-ordinator of Trees on the Land, added:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with SuperValu and Centra and to see the programme go from strength to strength. Together, we have already helped plant 25,000 native trees across Northern Ireland, creating habitats for wildlife and contributing to a more resilient landscape.

“We look forward to supporting many more community groups as we work towards increasing native tree cover and leaving a lasting environmental legacy for generations to come.”
