Belfast-based accountancy firm, Sumer Northern Ireland has announced a series of senior promotions across its Innovation Tax Relief and Forensic Accounting teams, in response to continued growth and increasing demand for specialist advisory services.
Since joining the Sumer Group, one of the UK’s leading mid-market accountancy practices, almost two years ago, the local practice has increased its headcount by 20%, currently employing 120 staff across all levels.
Focussed on servicing the SME sector, Sumer Northern Ireland’s Innovation Tax Relief team has experienced notable growth over recent months and is leading the Group’s delivery of R&D and Patent Box services across the UK.
As part of the latest promotions, Dr Phil Chambers has been appointed Associate Partner and brings extensive sector experience, including work within the pharmaceutical, aerospace and software sectors, to the role. Dr Phil is joined by Adam Stuart, who has been promoted to Senior Manager, bringing specialist expertise in software and information technology. Alongside the wider Innovation Tax Relief team, Dr Phil and Adam will support clients in the preparation and submission of robust R&D claims, while also helping businesses to understand the reliefs available and identify opportunities for expansion and innovation.
Elsewhere, in the Forensic Accounting department, Aoife Morgan, has been promoted to Associate Partner following more than four years with the firm. A Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, Aoife will utilise her expertise to assist clients in the quantification of claims for loss of earnings, pensions and other losses arising from personal injury claims, medical negligence or dependency
claims.
According to Brian Clerkin, Managing Partner at Sumer Northern Ireland, these strategic appointments underscore the firm’s ongoing investment in talent and its commitment to offering clients the highest quality service.
“These appointments are a clear reflection of the calibre of our staff, alongside the sustained growth we are seeing across the firm and increasing demand from the marketplace,” Brian explained.
“At Sumer Northern Ireland we place great emphasis on nurturing talent and creating clear pathways for progression. We’re committed to investing in our people and in supporting them to develop deep technical expertise while building long-term careers within the firm.
“Since joining the Sumer Group, one of our main priorities has been the continued investment in specialist expertise that allows us to deliver tangible value and results to our client base. Strengthening our Innovation Tax Relief and Forensic Accounting teams ensures that we are well placed to support ambitious companies across Northern Ireland and the UK as they expand, innovate and navigate an ever-changing business and regulatory landscape.
