Red Bull Soapbox Race Returns To Stormont This Weekend

The countdown is officially on as Red Bull Soapbox Race returns to the island of Ireland this weekend, bringing homemade machines, outrageous costumes and high-speed chaos to Stormont Estate, Belfast.

Returning to the Stormont Estate for the first time in 18 years and to the island of Ireland for the first time since 2016, the event will see 40 teams selected from more than 300 submissions, launch their creations down one of the world’s most unconventional and thrilling downhill races.

Here is everything spectators need to know ahead of race day:

When is it taking place?

Red Bull Soapbox Race takes place on Sunday, May 17th at Stormont Estate, Belfast. Gates open from 1pm, with racing running from 2-5pm.

Do I need a ticket?

No, the event is free to attend and no ticket is required.

What can spectators expect?

From wild designs to gravity-defying creations, Red Bull Soapbox Race is all about creativity, speed and showmanship. Teams will race homemade, non-motorised machines down the downhill course, with judging based on creativity, performance and speed.

The family-friendly event will also feature live entertainment, food vendors, large viewing screens and plenty of crashes, chaos and close finishes throughout the afternoon.

Will food and drink be available?

Yes, food vendors and non-alcoholic drinks will be available on site throughout the day. Spectators are also permitted to bring their own food and soft drinks.

How do I get there?

Limited parking will be available on-site, but spectators are strongly encouraged to use public transport. Enhanced Glider and bus services will operate throughout the day, alongside park-and-ride options from Belfast city centre and from the Glider Depot/bus depot at Dunleady Road, Dundonald.

Is there accessible viewing?

Yes, accessible viewing areas and Blue Badge parking will be available for attendees who require them. Spectators should note that foldable chairs are not permitted on site.

Is there accessible parking available?

Blue badge parking must be reserved in advance and is limited, visit redbull.ie/soapbox and visit the ‘Travel’ section of the FAQ’s for the link to book a spot.

What makes this year’s return so special?

Red Bull Soapbox Race returns to Northern Ireland for the first time since 2008, nearly 18 years to the week, when 30,000 spectators turned out to watch Ruddell Metals from Hillsborough take the win.
