NI Water Welcomes Aspiring Engineers To Work Experience Programme

NI Water opened its doors to young talent as 20 aspiring engineers from schools and colleges across Northern Ireland took part in the Engineering Work Experience Programme.

Now in its second year, this programme is delivered in partnership with social mobility charity, Futures for All, and provides students aged 16-19 with meaningful exposure to real career pathways within the water industry.

The young people, took part in two virtual learning days led by NI Water engineers, gaining insight into the essential role engineering plays in safely delivering clean drinking water and recycling wastewater.

The programme concluded with an in‑person experience at Dorisland Water Treatment Works near Carrickfergus, where students toured operational facilities and took part in interactive, hands‑on engineering challenges, demonstrating how NI Water’s engineering teams keep water flowing across Northern Ireland.

NI Water’s Head of HR Operations, Helen Devlin, said: “We are delighted to be running our Hybrid Work Experience Series for a second year, aptly falling during National Engineers Week. The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by students throughout the engineering programme has been fantastic. This model allows us to give young people a real sense of what a future at NI Water could look like. Our goal is to inspire the next generation, widen access to careers in the water industry, and continue supporting social mobility across Northern Ireland.”

NI Water will continue its series of hybrid work experience opportunities with upcoming placements in Finance, IT or General Business (June 2026) and Science (November 2026).  More information can be found at www.futuresforall.org.

This programme is delivered in partnership with Futures for All, a UK charity dedicated to improving social mobility by connecting young people with high‑quality career development opportunities.
