Lifesaving Defibrillator Installed At Belfast’s Bullitt Hotel

Belfast’s Bullitt hotel has installed a lifesaving defibrillator at its entrance on Church Lane, in the heart of the city centre.

Part funded with investment from Belfast One, the installation of the new defibrillator was inspired by a powerful story from last year’s Belfast Marathon.

In 2024, marathon runner John Deery suffered from a sudden cardiac arrest. The swift actions of a spectator—who had a defibrillator in his car—and a nurse on the course, saved his life.

The hotel, which is on the course route, is also a partner of Belfast running collective, We Run Belfast who begin their city centre run at Bullitt every Wednesday evening.

Commenting on the new defibrillator, Andy Carson, general manager, Bullitt said: “We’re proud to partner with Belfast One on this lifesaving initiative. With our proximity to the marathon, half marathon and 10k routes in the city, and our partnership with We Run Belfast, Bullitt is a prime and accessible location, should a runner, or any member of the public, find themselves in cardiac distress.”

Martina Connolly, chief executive of Belfast One said: “As part of our engagement with local businesses and city stakeholders, we identified the need for a centrally located defibrillator that is readily accessible 24/7.

“Whilst we all hope that people do not find themselves in a situation where they need emergency first aid, we’re proud to support local businesses in their efforts to contribute positively to wellbeing in the community. This month, Belfast One will also host a free week-long programme of fitness sessions, wellness experiences, creative outlets and community events as part of our Wellbeing Week between 12-18 May.”

Staff from the hotel ran in the recent Belfast Marathon in support of NICHS. The teams’ efforts raised vital funds to support the charity, which delivers care and prevention services, and supports ground-breaking research to benefit as many as 470,000 people in Northern Ireland living with a chest, heart or stroke condition.
