KPMG Sponsors 144th Royal Ulster Academy Exhibition

The 144th Royal Ulster Academy (RUA) Annual Exhibition, proudly sponsored by KPMG, opened its doors this week at the Ulster Museum, showcasing a compelling array of work that underscores the vibrancy and resilience of the region’s visual arts sector.

Taking over the museum’s main galleries, the exhibition showcases almost 350 pieces across painting, sculpture, textiles, ceramics and installations. Artists from across Northern Ireland and beyond are represented, offering a rich dialogue of styles, media and talented voices.

Now in its 18th consecutive year, the enduring partnership between KPMG and the RUA, has become one of the region’s most significant collaborations between business and the arts, highlighting KPMG’s continued support for nurturing creativity and innovation.

The opening preview event welcomed guests, artists and patrons to the Ulster Museum ahead of the public opening, offering an early peak at new creative work and a chance for guests to engage directly with the artists behind it.

Johnny Hanna, Partner in Charge of KPMG in Northern Ireland, reflected on the importance of the partnership:

“We are consistently inspired by the calibre of talent on display. The Annual Exhibition brings together emerging voices and established practitioners in a way that energises the arts community and reminds us all that creativity drives new ideas, fresh thinking and innovation across every part of society.”

Hanna extended his congratulations to this year’s exhibiting artists, adding:

“Congratulations to all the artists who have shown that the visual arts are alive and well. Special mention for Alana Barton who won the ‘KPMG Young Artist’ prize, chosen by KPMG staff.”

Founded in 1879, the Royal Ulster Academy remains the largest collective body of practising visual artists in Northern Ireland and a cornerstone of the region’s cultural landscape.

As in previous years, the exhibition is free to attend, underlining the RUA’s commitment to accessibility and public engagement. The programme also includes guided tours, artist talks, and outreach events designed to connect audiences and communities across Belfast and beyond.

RUA President Dan Dowling spoke about the exhibition’s place in Northern Ireland’s cultural life:

“This year’s exhibition showcases the exceptional creativity that thrives here in Northern Ireland and beyond. We’re bringing together an incredible mix of art from both seasoned and emerging artists. It’s a fantastic celebration of creativity and innovation and I’m thrilled for everyone to experience this visual feast.”
