KPMG Hits The Ground Running With Ciara Mageean

KPMG in Northern Ireland has announced a new sporting partnership with Ciara Mageean, the trailblazing middle-distance runner who claimed gold in the 1,500 metres at the 2024 European Athletics Championships.

Mageean joins KPMG’s distinguished group of sporting ambassadors across the island of Ireland and globally, further demonstrating their ongoing support for women’s sport.

Regarded as one of Ireland’s most accomplished track athletes, Mageean’s remarkable rise from Portaferry, Co. Down, to the European Championships embodies the values of determination, resilience, and breakthrough performance.

Welcoming the announcement, Johnny Hanna, Partner in Charge at KPMG in Northern Ireland, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Ciara Mageean to KPMG’s team of sporting ambassadors. Ciara’s gold medal triumph at the European Championships is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her sport and extraordinary talent. Her journey is one of perseverance and passion.

“Ciara’s story resonates deeply with KPMG, and we look forward to supporting her continued success. Through this partnership, we aim to inspire Northern Ireland’s next generation of female athletes and continue driving meaningful change through sport.”

Mageean’s decorated career spans over a decade, beginning with silver at the 2010 World Junior Championships. Since then, she has consistently broken barriers and rewritten the record books in Irish athletics. Her accolades include bronze at the 2016 European Championships, bronze at the 2019 European Indoor Championships, silver at both the 2022 Commonwealth Games and European Championships, and record-breaking performances in the 1500m and 1000m events—surpassing marks set by the legendary Sonia O’Sullivan. In 2023, she set a new Irish mile record with a time of 4:14.58, ranking her  the fifth-fastest woman in history over the distance.

Claiming gold in Rome at the European Athletics Championships in 2024, solidified her status as one of the greatest middle-distance runners Ireland has ever produced.

Commenting on the partnership, Mageean said  (Awaiting approval):

“I’m incredibly proud to join the KPMG family as their newest sporting ambassador in Northern Ireland.

“Their commitment to promoting women in sport and championing equality aligns with my own passion for inspiring young girls to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams. This is an exciting new chapter, and I look forward to working with KPMG to make a positive impact both on and off the track.”

KPMG’s collaboration with Ciara Mageean reflects the firm’s broader dedication to supporting elite athletes who exemplify the highest standards of performance, leadership, and integrity. It builds on a strong portfolio of sporting partnerships that promote inclusion, ambition, and community engagement across Ireland and beyond, including jockey Rachael Blackmore, runner Rhasidat Adeleke and golfer Leona Maguire.
