Joe O’Neill Appointed Chair Of Northern Ireland Tourism Alliance

The Northern Ireland Tourism Alliance (NITA) has appointed Joe O’Neill as its new Chair, succeeding Judith Owens MBE, who has served in the role with for the past three years.

Joe brings a wealth of leadership experience and strategic insight to the role. He is currently Chief Executive of Belfast Harbour, having joined the organisation in 1997 and holding a number of senior positions before becoming CEO in 2018. His leadership has been instrumental in developing Belfast Harbour as a key hub for trade, tourism, and advancing regional prosperity.

Joe also plays an active role in civic and business leadership across Northern Ireland. He is Chair of the Simon Community, Chair of the Belfast City and Region Place Partnership, and serves on the boards of Business in the Community, Belfast Chamber, and the British Ports Association, among others. He is also a member of the Tourism Partnership Board. 

His diverse experience and collaborative approach will be critical as NITA continues to lead the conversation on tourism’s role in shaping a sustainable and competitive future.

Speaking on his appointment, Joe O’Neill said:

The industry has demonstrated extraordinary resilience and adaptability, and I look forward to working with NITA’s members and stakeholders to build on the solid foundation established by Judith and the Board. Tourism is a vital contributor to our economy and communities, and I’m excited to support its continued growth and impact.”

NITA would also like to pay tribute to Judith Owens MBE, CEO of TBL International, the management company responsible for Titanic Belfast, SS Nomadic, and the Titanic Slipways. Judith steps down as Chair after three years of exceptional leadership. She was also a founding member and director of NITA, playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation since its inception.
