Belfast City Council’s Planning Committee has given the green light to two new housing developments in west Belfast.
The first is a mixed-use development on lands near Monagh By-pass. This application will see two three-storey apartment buildings being built with 36 social housing units.
The development will also consist of 7 business/light industrial units. This site is on lands adjacent and south-west of Monagh By-Pass and north-west of Black Ridge Gardens.
The second application approved is 29 dwellings with car parking, landscaping and communal amenity space on lands north of Barnfield Road and south of Mount Eagles Avenue. Six of the dwellings are to be delivered as affordable housing.
The Planning Committee also approved the demolition of existing commercial units at Kingsway, Dunmurry, for the build of a new Lidl food store (2,300 sqm).
The site is currently in use as a supermarket (Tesco) and five smaller retail units with parking space to the front and rear. The application will see alterations to car parking layout, alterations to access on Dunmurry Lane, landscaping and site works.
Approval was further granted for alterations and refurbishment of the former City of Belfast School of Music building in Donegall Pass.
Councillor Ryan Murphy, Chair of council’s Planning Committee, said: “Our Planning Committee has approved two new housing developments or 65 new homes for residents in the city and a new Lidl store which will support jobs in the area and provide choice for people.
“This meets the objectives of our Community Plan, the Belfast Agenda, in providing much needed housing and accommodation, as well as, supporting our economy.”
