Big names from the local comedy circuit backed Action Mental Health for a crowd-pleasing fundraising extravaganza at The Millennium Forum, Derry/Londonderry and The MAC, Belfast.
Hosted by Action Mental Health ambassador, Dave Elliott, the shows saw performances from Micky Bartlett, Emer Maguire, Sean Hegarty, Aaron Butler, Andrew Ryan, Chris Kent, Emma Doran and others. It all made for three nights of belly-laughs and two events that were a huge success. Now in the second year for the charity, the routine looks set to stay on repeat for the future.
Action Mental Health’s Head of Communications and Fundraising, Jonathan Smyth, said: “We would like to extend huge thanks to Dave Elliott, The MAC, The Millennium Forum and the amazing line-up of comedians. ‘Stand-up for Someone’ has been a huge success and undoubtedly made so by the standard of comedy on the night. All events were well attended and we would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of the public who bought tickets and made the event the success it was. Adding,Every penny raised will go directly to helping someone struggling with mental health issues and will support our vital services across Northern Ireland.”
The charity’s ‘Stand-up for Someone’ gigs followed the equally successful ‘I AM SOMEONE’ campaign, which launched on World Mental Health Day 2024. This campaign highlighted the real people behind the statistics – including the fact that one in five adults will experience mental health issues in Northern Ireland within their lifetimes. All funds raised from ‘I AM SOMEONE’ and ‘Stand-up for Someone’ directly support Action Mental Health’s provision to children, young people and adults throughout Northern Ireland.
