Chef Niall McKenna Backs Charity Fundraising Breakfast

Leading chef Niall McKenna is inviting the public to host a fundraising breakfast on Thursday, 5 December to support families in Northern Ireland facing poverty and hardship.

The fundraising breakfast launch event is part of DIGG Deep for Kids, a grassroots charity founded in 2019 by Caroline O’Neill, a County Tyrone businesswoman and mother of three. Since its inception, the campaign has raised more than £650,000 to support local charities, this year’s being Women’s Aid, Cash for Kids Christmas Appeal, and the Simon Community.

At the breakfast launch event at Waterman House, Niamh Taylor, Vice-chair for DIGG Deep for Kids underscored the significance of the 2024 Christmas appeal, emphasising that this year’s event holds even greater potential thanks to the campaign’s growing impact.

She said, “I’m delighted to work alongside Caroline to launch our 2024 charity Christmas appeal. With the support of Niall McKenna and his team, we hope to help even more people across Northern Ireland. DIGG Deep for Kids is unique because we work directly with local charities to meet their most pressing needs. Through collaboration with businesses and social media influencers, we have been able to nearly double the impact of every pound raised, providing essentials like heat, electricity, food, and holiday gifts for children who might otherwise go without.”

Chef Niall McKenna, the owner of Waterman House and Cookery School in Belfast and a board member on the DIGG Deep for Kids charity, is proud to support the campaign, which has a history of bringing communities together to support one another.

“It’s been inspiring to witness how DIGG Deep for Kids rallies community members to make a tangible difference,” Niall McKenna said. “This year, we’re expanding our reach to support even more families throughout the year. By gathering friends, family, and colleagues, participants can make a meaningful contribution toward essential resources for families and children in need.”

The DIGG Deep For Kids Breakfast fundraiser on Thursday 5 December offers an easy way for anyone to participate, with contributions large or small making a difference. Funds raised will be spent on the essentials identified by DIGG Deep’s chosen charities – Cash For Kids, Women’s Aid NI and the Simon Community.
