Belfast City Council & FSA Launch Food Safety Programme

Belfast City Council has joined forces with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in Northern Ireland to launch a ‘Safer Food Means Better Business’ campaign.

Discussing how the campaign links with the FSA’s vision Anjali Juneja, Director of UK & International Affairs, FSA said:

“Food is vital to everyone, every day.   At the FSA our mission is ‘food you can trust’, and we work to protect consumers and our food industry.  We do that through setting food safety regulations, monitoring the food safety inspection system, responding to food incidents and taking action to protect consumers around the safety and quality of food and feed.”

Anjali continues; “Food businesses play a vital role in maintaining high standards and keeping food safe for consumers.  To help support them to do this, we have launched the ‘Safer Food Means Better Business’ campaign.  Businesses can log onto Safer food, better business (SFBB) | Food Standards Agency and explore the free resources to access the information that they need.”

Welcoming the campaign, Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, said:

“We know how challenging running a food business can be and the competing demands that owners are faced with. There are specific regulations that they need to comply with, to prevent the spread of food borne disease and it’s vitally important that these are followed to protect our food chain and the health of our citizens healthy.

“Council staff are actively involved in the regulation of the food industry and, on a daily basis, they’re undertaking inspections to maintain standards.  Having relevant guidelines and information in one place makes the process of staying across the requirements easier for food businesses and I welcome the Safer Food Means Better Business campaign.”
