James O’Hara, a Chartered insurance broker and a senior manager at AbbeyAutoline, has achieved one of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) highest global accolades, capturing the prestigious Rutter Medal after topping the performance charts in his Fellowship examinations.
The coveted award, which recognises the best new Fellow across the entire insurance industry, was presented recently to James during a high-profile awards ceremony in London.
James’s achievement comes as he marks 14 years with AbbeyAutoline, Northern Ireland’s largest insurance broker. In this time, James who is based in Newtownards, has steadily worked his way up through the company ranks, balancing a demanding career with a rigorous, long-term commitment to professional development.
Reflecting on his journey, which began 18 years ago when he first entered the insurance industry, James said: “Early on, I recognised that in a highly regulated environment like insurance, qualifications are the very foundation of professional integrity and consumer trust. In an industry governed by strict compliance, holding myself to the highest educational standards has been essential to navigating complexity and delivering true value.”
His disciplined study approach – which frequently involved carving out quiet time on Sundays to read widely, reflect deeply, and revise rigorously – saw him progress successfully through his Cert CII, Diploma, and Advanced Diploma, before ultimately conquering the Fellowship programme.
