Audi has unveiled the third-generation Q7, giving its largest SUV a comprehensive makeover designed to keep it competitive in one of the most hotly contested premium segments.
More than two decades after the original Q7 helped establish Audi as a serious player in the luxury SUV market, the latest version arrives with sharper styling, a significantly upgraded cabin, new digital technology and enhanced lighting systems. Importantly for family buyers, it retains the seven-seat practicality that has long been one of its biggest selling points.
The new model is on sale now, with first UK deliveries expected from September and prices starting from £81,665.
Strong diesel performance
At launch, the Q7 is offered with a single powertrain: a 3.0-litre V6 TDI diesel engine paired with mild-hybrid technology.
Producing 295bhp and a substantial 630Nm of torque, the electrified diesel provides impressive performance for a large SUV. Audi claims a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds, making the Q7 considerably quicker than many buyers might expect from a vehicle of this size.
Standard quattro all-wheel drive ensures plenty of traction in poor weather conditions, while all-wheel steering and adaptive air suspension are fitted across the range. These systems are designed to improve manoeuvrability around town while maintaining comfort and stability on longer motorway journeys.
While some rivals now offer fully electric alternatives, Audi’s decision to launch with a diesel-only powertrain may divide opinion. However, for drivers regularly covering long distances, a refined six-cylinder diesel still offers advantages in terms of effortless cruising and towing ability.
Packed with technology
Even the entry-level S line model comes generously equipped.
Standard features include Matrix LED headlights with dynamic indicators, 20-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and a powered tailgate. Inside, buyers get heated electrically adjustable front sport seats, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting and aluminium trim finishes.
Technology is a particular highlight. The dashboard is dominated by Audi’s new panoramic display arrangement, comprising an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, alongside a separate 12.3-inch passenger display.
A comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance systems also comes as standard, including adaptive cruise assist, surround-view cameras and park assist plus.
Climbing the range
Buyers wanting a more distinctive appearance can opt for the Edition 1 model.
This version upgrades to 22-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels and adds a black styling package, red brake calipers and extra digital lighting signatures. The cabin receives perforated Fine Nappa leather upholstery, enhanced sports seats, ventilation and massage functions for front occupants, while passengers in the second and third rows benefit from heated seats.
At the top of the line-up sits the Vorsprung model, which pushes the Q7 firmly into luxury territory.
The flagship version features 23-inch alloy wheels, digital Matrix LED headlights and advanced OLED rear lights capable of displaying projected warning symbols. Other highlights include an illuminated grille, panoramic glass roof with adjustable transparency, Bang & Olufsen 4D audio system, four-zone climate control and a head-up display.
How does it compare?
The premium seven-seat SUV segment is packed with talented rivals. The Q7 will face competition from the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Range Rover Sport, while more technology-focused buyers may also consider electric alternatives such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90.
Audi’s strengths remain its combination of practicality, advanced cabin technology and refined road manners. The seven-seat layout remains genuinely usable, and the quality of the interior should appeal to buyers seeking a premium feel.
On the other hand, some rivals offer a broader choice of engines, including plug-in hybrid and fully electric options, areas where the Q7 currently looks less versatile.
Prices
The new Audi Q7 range starts with the S line at £81,665. The Edition 1 is priced from £88,965, while the flagship Vorsprung commands £101,665.
