Friel Stafford Appoints PJ O’Brien To Lead New Financing Division

Friel Stafford, part of the ifac Group, is pleased to announce the appointment of PJ O’Brien as Head of Strategic Financing to lead the new division. PJ joins Friel Stafford with over 33 years’ experience in Irish banking and commercial finance, having held a number of leadership positions across the banking sector, most recently as Area Manager with KBC Business Banking. PJ brings extensive experience in supporting Irish businesses, professionals, investors and entrepreneurs across multiple sectors and credit cycles.

PJ has built his career in the Irish financial services sector, working across retail banking, business banking, property finance and strategic debt advisory. Along the way, he has developed strong relationships with clients, as well as with the pillar banks, alternative lenders and professional advisory firms throughout Ireland.

Following the departure of KBC from the Irish market, PJ established OBP Consultants Limited, a specialist commercial finance and advisory business focused on assisting SMEs, property investors and professional practices with debt structuring, strategic financing and banking negotiations.

PJ is widely recognised for his practical, relationship-driven approach and his ability to guide clients through complex financing transactions while maintaining a strong focus on responsible borrowing and long-term financial sustainability.

In his new role at Friel Stafford, PJ will lead the development of the firm’s Strategic Financing division, working closely with clients and colleagues across the practice to deliver tailored funding and advisory solutions. PJ will work collaboratively across the Friel Stafford and ifac teams, complementing the firm’s existing expertise in banking, tax, audit, corporate finance and restructuring.

Commenting on his appointment, PJ O’Brien, Head of Strategic Financing at Friel Stafford, said:

“I am delighted to be joining Friel Stafford at such an exciting time for the firm. Having spent over 33 years working in Irish banking and commercial finance, I am looking forward to bringing that experience to bear in supporting clients with growth funding, acquisition finance, refinancing and banking negotiations. I look forward to working closely with colleagues across Friel Stafford and the ifac Group to deliver practical, tailored solutions for businesses and professionals throughout the country.”

Welcoming the appointment, Tom Murray, Partner at Friel Stafford, said:

“PJ brings a wealth of experience in Irish banking and commercial finance, along with a deep understanding of the challenges facing SMEs, property investors and professional practices. His appointment marks an important step in the development of our Strategic Financing division, and we are confident his practical, relationship-driven approach will be of huge value to our clients.”

Friel Stafford provides specialist insolvency, restructuring, corporate finance, forensic accounting and advisory services, supporting clients across a wide range of sectors as part of the ifac Group offering.
