Flutter Names National Maternity Hospital As Charity Of The Year

The National Maternity Hospital Foundation has welcomed news they have been named Flutter’s Irish Charity of the year for 2025.

Employees at their Dublin-based betting and gaming operator’s offices selected the charity from a shortlist put forward by colleagues, who have raised over €700,000 for their chosen charities over the past two years.

The NMH Foundation, which was established in 2012, rely entirely on the generosity of individuals, communities, companies and trusts to raise vital funds to advance women’s and neonatal health, supporting research, innovation, and excellence in care at The National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.

Every year, around 7,000 babies are born there, however, one in ten babies are born prematurely, requiring specialist care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The NMH is also a national referral centre for neonatal care and women with complex pregnancies from all over Ireland are transferred to the hospital every year.

Speaking about their 2025 partnership with the NMH Foundation, Flutter Chief Executive for UK & Ireland, Kevin Harrington, explained why colleagues voted overwhelmingly to support this charity.

“Many Flutter employees have a personal connection to The National Maternity Hospital – whether they were born there themselves, have had a baby there, or know someone who has received care at The National Maternity Hospital, so raising funds for its Foundation is a cause close to everyone’s hearts.”

“We have almost over 1,500 people working out of our Dublin office and their motivation to engage with the regular fundraising efforts for this Foundation is something I’m really proud to witness personally, and it’s something I hope our colleagues take huge pride in too.”

Flutter have embarked on a calendar of initiatives to help raise as much money as possible for the NMH Foundation including pop-up staff events, mini marathon participation and several other key occasions across the year that will have an intrinsic fundraising aspect, culminating in the highlight – the Flutter Dublin Charity Ball held in September.

Mary Rose Burke, Chair of the NMH Foundation Board, added: “We are incredibly delighted that Flutter Dublin employees have chosen the NMH Foundation as their Charity of the year for 2025. This partnership represents a remarkable opportunity to drive real change in women’s and neonatal healthcare. By funding research, we are not just supporting babies in our care today – we are shaping the future of maternal and neonatal health for generations to come. Premature birth can have lifelong consequences for babies and their families.”

Flutter’s partnership with the National Maternity Hospital Foundation forms part of their global commitment to ‘Do More’ for the causes and communities in which the company operates, with an aim to improve the lives of 10 million people by 2030.

Flutter’s UK colleagues raised a record-breaking sum for 2024 charity partners Cure Leukaemia, presenting last year’s Charity of the Year with a cheque for £375,000 – surpassing a £314,000 contribution to the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund in 2023.

This year they have partnered with Pancreatic Cancer UK as the Flutter UK Charity of the Year for 2025.
