€4.5 Million Investment At Kingsbridge Private Hospital In Sligo

Kingsbridge Healthcare Group has officially reopened Kingsbridge Sligo as part of a €4.5 million investment to reconfigure the facility as an ambulatory care unit for Sligo, Leitrim, south Donegal, north Mayo and Roscommon.

Extensive renovation and refitting at the facility on Sligo’s Ray MacSharry Road has introduced a range of new and advanced diagnostic equipment including MRI, X-ray and endoscopy systems, and a new day-surgery theatre with enhanced air filtration systems to significantly reduce the risks of infection during surgery

The new ambulatory care model reflects a broader shift in how private healthcare is delivered across Ireland, prioritising rapid access, advanced diagnostics and high-volume day surgery close to where patients live.

It will mirror the HSE’s model of smaller regional centres offering rapid access to minor surgery and diagnostics, with larger centres of excellence taking the more complex cases. Kingsbridge has recently invested €20M into its 38-bed surgical hospital on the outskirts of Derry which acts as a centre of excellence for specialities including paediatrics, bariatrics and robotic spine and knee surgery.

Mark Regan, chief executive of Kingsbridge Healthcare Group said: “This €4.5 million investment demonstrates our strong commitment to the future of Kingsbridge in Sligo, and to giving the north west the best possible healthcare for many years to come.

“Following the upgrade works, Kingsbridge Sligo now has one of the most advanced endoscopy systems for gastrointestinal investigation on the island of Ireland, allowing physicians to detect cancers at an earlier stage with greater accuracy.”

Patients will no longer need to travel for many procedures with Kingsbridge Sligo now offering:

  • Day surgery for cataracts, urology and gynaecology
  • Ultra-modern endoscopy systems for the detection of cancer and other gastrointestinal conditions
  • Enhanced outpatient facilities with increased range of specialist services including orthopaedic hip, knee, foot, ankle and spine
  • A powerful 1.5T MRI scanner on site through our partnership with Alliance Medical
  • General x-ray with same day access from GP’s and other clinical referrers

Further work, forming part of the €4.5 million investment, will be conducted in spring 2027 to install a state-of-the-art CT scanner (in partnership with Alliance Medical), expanding the diagnostic capability on-site.

Mr Regan added: “We look forward to working with our partners Alliance Medical who will install one of the most advanced CT high resolution, low dose scanners on the island in Sligo.”

The project included the construction of a new theatre unit with enhanced infection control for cataract and day surgery, and the upgrade of the endoscopy unit at the Garden Hill site off Ray MacSharry Road.

A number of additional consultants are in the process of establishing satellite clinics in the new unit to ensure local access to the highest standards of healthcare.

The Sligo development forms part of a wider group investment in the north west. Kingsbridge Healthcare Group has recently invested an additional €20 million in the modernisation and expansion of facilities at Kingsbridge Northwest in Derry, which boasts rapid access in many of the mainstream surgical specialities and a centre of excellence in paediatrics, giving patients in the region an alternative to lengthy public waiting lists
