Dublin has recorded a morale-boosting vote of confidence in its night time economy by securing a prestigious award.
Leading city business collective, Dublin Town, has announced that the city has again been awarded a Purple Flag.
The accolade is an award for reaching a standard of excellence in the evening and night time economy through a diverse cultural offering which is non-alcohol dependent, family friendly, safe and vibrant.
Dublin Town is the key driver of initiatives around Purple Flag.
“Dublin City centre at night has experienced justifiable criticism, but it is addressing its challenges systematically,’ ” said Dublin Town CEO, Richard Guiney.
“Securing the Purple Flag award for 2025 is evidence of the strength of city partnership and our determination to regain public support and engagement in the city, particularly after dark.”
Dublin City centre has consistently held coveted Purple Flag status since 2013.
The Purple Flag is an international accreditation, managed by the UK based Association of Town and City Management, for excellence in the management of the evening and night-time economy.
Its awarding follows independent external assessment and site visits repeated bi-annually.
The Dublin Purple Flag partnership includes Dublin Town, Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochána and Fáilte Ireland.
“Combined with the expected recommendations of the Taoiseach’s Dublin City Centre Task Force, a platform can be built to deliver an experience for all in the city both day and night,” added Mr Guiney.
“Dubliners love their city and want to reclaim it. We are determined to achieve this.”
Dublin Town, the collective voice of businesses in the city centre, represents the interests of 2,500 members.
