AIB has completed the €190 million refinancing of four hotels in the MHL Hotel Collection, which included 70% green financing. The College Green Hotel (Dublin), Galmont (Galway), Trinity City Hotel (Dublin) and Limerick Strand Hotel are all included in the deal. It follows the refinancing of the InterContinental and Spencer Hotels (both Dublin) with AIB in 2025. AIB also previously provided development funding for a 112-bedroom extension to the Hilton Charlemont Hotel (Dublin) which opened in late 2025.
The refinance includes an increase of €70 million, of which €50 million is green finance specific to the College Green Hotel, Limerick Strand Hotel and Trinity City Hotel.
Formed by US businessman John C. Malone and his Irish partners Paul Higgins and John Lally, the MHL Hotel Collection is the second largest Irish hotel group with 2025 revenues in excess of €230 million. Overall, the MHL Hotel Collection operates 14 hotels with over 2,650 bedrooms in the five cities and counties in which it operates.
AIB is MHL’s largest banking partner in Ireland, providing finance for eight of their hotels since 2013.
Glenn Shanley, AIB Head of Corporate Banking said “AIB has been a proud partner of the MHL Hotel Collection since its inaugural acquisition in 2013 and has supported the business throughout its growth journey to become its largest debt finance provider. This latest refinance, together with other recent transactions, underscores AIB’s long‑standing commitment to the hospitality sector, delivering green finance that supports jobs in communities across the country.”
Paul Higgins, Partner at MHL said: “AIB has been a long‑standing partner to the MHL Hotel Collection, supporting the business through multiple phases of growth. This latest refinance reflects both the quality of our hotels and the depth of our relationship with AIB, who continue to deliver flexible, competitive capital aligned with our strategy. We value AIB’s strong understanding of the hospitality sector and their ability to support our plans.”
