Sometimes the late-night hike from Belfast to Bangor after a good night out isn’t so easy. So this week we stayed in the city, courtesy of Anthony & Andrea Kieran and the wonderful team at Regency House, Belfast’s first and only hospitality house.
Belfast and Northern Ireland has a few luxury hotels. But they’re nothing like this place. In fact, it’s hard to know where to start. But let’s try…..
As befits one of the city’s most historic crescents, it’s classy, it’s elegant and it’s impeccably finished and furnished in – youy’ve guessed it – the Regency style. It’s a place of peace, of quiet, of relaxation and of luxury. Spoiled once again, we stayed in the Presidential Suite, a two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a huge living/dining room with its own kitchen. A beautiful, high-ceilinged apartment in its own right.
The other suites are exactly that. Each comes with its own kitchen space and therefore becomes a home from home. And that’s the point of The Regency. It’s not really a hotel. There are few common areas. But, in most ways, it’s better than any hotel we can think of, especially in Northern Ireland.
But what makes this place is its people. Each one of them goes out of his or her way to help with just about anything – it’s a concierge experience like no other. At the same time, they can disappear into the background and stay out of your way if that’s how you prefer it.
Don’t take our word for it though. A quick glance through the reviews on Trip Advisor paints a picture that Anthony, the man behind the project, must be very proud of. For him, it’s been a labour of love, and it shows.
