Communications – It Pays To Be Prepared

Be it a boardroom presentation, a broadcast interview, or a bedtime battle with a toddler, good communication is a skill, or gift, which some take for granted, and others consider a herculean task. Blame it on confidence, nerves, or imposter syndrome, getting the message across, in a way which is heard and understood – is easier said than done.

Combine that with our fast-moving, information-overload world, plus a media landscape which is increasingly fragmented, and the ability to communicate clearly, calmly and confidently has never been more important.

Add a major incident, unforeseen event or workplace crisis into the mix, and the need ‘be prepared’ as every good scout knows, suddenly takes on a whole new perspective.

Reputation management

What does this mean for the businesses and brands which are navigating an environment where information travels instantly, scrutiny is constant, and misinformation spreads faster than facts? If your corporate reputation is at risk, it means the need for robust communications readiness is no longer a ‘nice to have’; but an absolute ‘must have’.

Holywood-based, full-service communications consultancy, Morrow Communications has responded by teaming up with broadcasting experts Donna Traynor and Ronan Kelly to bring fresh thinking and a wholistic solution in the form of The Briefing Room.

Company director, Claire Bonner explains why formalising this long-standing partnership is so timely:

“Communications training is nothing new. It’s a service we’ve been providing to our clients for decades. But the landscape and platforms have changed, and this is transforming how organisations reach and engage with their audiences.

“From traditional broadcast media to the plethora of digital and social channels, blogs, vlogs, and podcasts, there’s a lot to consider.

“However, one thing is constant: the fundamentals of effective communication are the same today as they always were. Knowing your audience, crafting a clear and relevant message, and delivering it with authenticity remain the foundations upon which great businesses thrive.

“Misinformation – a reality which has exploded in the last decade – adds another layer of complexity. Inaccurate or misleading narratives can take hold, rapidly filling the void left by corporate silence.

“Managing an organisation’s reputation and communicating effectively is much more than media training; it’s about building resilience, ensuring consistency, and empowering leaders to engage effectively under pressure. And to borrow another scouts phase, you need to prepare to ‘Do Your Best’.

Communications readiness

Over the years the Morrow Communications and Kellyvision partnership has been helping forward-thinking public, private and third sector organisations ‘do their best’ but as broadcaster and media specialist Donna Traynor explains, the need for critical thinking has reached a new level.

“In today’s always-on society, communications readiness and message delivery are essential leadership skills. Media scrutiny is constant, stakeholder expectations are rising, and employees look to leaders for clarity and confidence, particularly in uncertain times. Through The Briefing Room, we provide full-service communications preparedness support and coaching. This helps leaders speak with assurance and credibility across media, digital, stakeholder, public affairs and internal channels, making sure you’re in control when it matters most.”

By combining decades of broadcasting experience with strategic communications counsel, The Briefing Room offers a seamless approach to preparedness.

“From message development and media engagement to crisis simulation and presentation coaching we cover all eventualities,” adds Claire Bonner. “Time in front of the camera with Donna and Ronan is an experience few forget, as is the supportive coaching and feedback provided throughout.”

“Ultimately, the goal is simple: to help businesses safeguard their reputation by communicating with clarity, credibility and confidence. In a world where every interaction has the potential to shape perception, those who invest in these skills are best placed to cut through the noise, counter misinformation, and build trust with the audiences that matter most.”
