Local businessman, Dr Terry Cross OBE, visited the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) on 26 March 2019 where he presented Head of Fundraising Kerry Anderson with a cheque for £4,000, bringing his total donation to the AANI charity to £12,000. Dr Terry Cross OBE, Chairman of Hinch Distillery Ltd.

, previously donated £8,000 to AANI in October 2018 when he visited the base and learned more about the service, which has been tasked 752 times since its first mission in July 2017.
Dr Cross commented: “I’m delighted to be able to offer further support to AANI. On my last visit to the base I was struck by the difference the pre-hospital critical care is making to the lives of people across Northern Ireland. The dedication the team have and their commitment to providing exceptional care is truly inspiring.”

In a move to protect local history, Terry adds: “The donation was made at the request of the Murals Make Ballynahinch Beautiful (MMBB) committee. As we progress plans to build a Hinch Distillery, we wanted to reflect the local history of the area. In 1998 the late Brum Henderson commissioned a series of murals in the town which are managed by MMBB. Some of these fantastic images will be reproduced and displayed within the distillery.”

Kerry Anderson AANI Head of Fundraising said: “Serious or life-threatening situations can and do happen regularly and, on average, every single day in Northern Ireland one individual finds themselves in desperate need of the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). We are thrilled with this additional support from Dr Cross, whose total donations will fund two days for the service.”

AANI is a local charity that provides the HEMS for Northern Ireland, together with partners at the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS). The service brings urgent medical assistance to anywhere in the province, operating seven days a week for 12 hours per day. It can get to anywhere in Northern Ireland in approximately twenty-five minutes.

This Doctor / Paramedic service benefits those whose lives are at serious risk following significant injury or trauma. Effectively the service brings emergency hospital care direct to the casualty.

AANI needs to raise £2million each year to maintain this service, so public and corporate donations are crucial. If you would like to donate, organise an event or could spare some time volunteering, please contact AANI by email at info@airambulanceni.org or call 028 9262 2677.
