He worked for opticians in Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria including Specsavers, before returning home to Northern Ireland in 1995 to open the Specsavers store in Bloomfield Shopping Centre in Bangor alongside David Maguire, who is also marking 25 years with the optical group.
Together, whilst operating the Bangor store, they won a prestigious UK wide National Training Award in 1996 receiving the accolade at London’s Downing Street. The duo also went on to win an Optician’s Eye Care Award in 1997 and were the first multiple to win that trophy.
David Maguire has 43 years’ experience in the optical industry. He has worked for Specsavers for 32 years in total, first in London, before coming over to Northern Ireland in 1995. Following his ten year spell with the Bangor store, David moved to Specsavers in central Belfast when it was located in Ann Street. The store moved to larger two storey premises at Victoria Square Belfast in June 2016.
Both partners received their long service certificates from Nikki Gardiner, Specsavers Regional Relationship Manager in Northern Ireland.
Specsavers has 23 stores throughout Northern Ireland. They are open for all routine testing and services, with new measures in place to keep you safe, including restrictions on the number of customers, social distancing rules and bank card payments only, where possible. Keeping in line with government recommendations, Specsavers colleagues will use personal protective equipment (PPE) and will practice full sanitisation of testing rooms and equipment.
