SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA stores in Northern Ireland have been shortlisted 35 times across several categories in the prestigious Retail Industry Awards. 17 independent and company-owned stores in Northern Ireland dominate this year’s shortlist, with the brands standing out as the only retailers in many categories from Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year to Forecourt Retailer of the Year.

Henderson Retail, the company which operates 99 SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVOXTRA stores and supermarkets has been shortlisted for Best Use of Technology, Chilled Retailer of the Year, Food-to-Go Retailer of the Year and is the only NI retailer to make the Multiple Community Retailer of the Year shortlist.

The company has 10 stores in the shortlist, and the Post Office Retailer of the Year (company owned) and Store Team of the Year categories are made up solely of Henderson Retail stores and teams. SPAR has been shortlisted for Symbol/Franchise Group of the Year. (Full shortlist in notes to editors)

Paddy Doody, Sales & Marketing Director at Henderson Group says the recognition for individual stores, team members and the company, is down to the innovation they bring to the industry.

“Once again our Independent Retailers and Henderson Retail teams have shown why they are the best in the business. Not only do they operate successful businesses, but they have created hubs for their communities, growing to bring essential services, supporting local groups and organisations, and innovating to meet challenges head on – especially in the past 18 months, which is evidenced with the successful shortlisting in both the independent and company-owned Community Retailer of the Year categories.”

The Retail Industry Awards are widely recognised as the most prestigious in the sector across the UK, awarding achievements from retailers throughout the UK grocery sector from technology to community engagement.

The Awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 21 September at The Brewery, London – the first gala event for the awards in two years.

Paddy finished; “There is no better time to be celebrating and rewarding the champions of the retail and grocery industry who have been frontline during an unprecedented pandemic, kept their businesses booming and shoppers stocked up safely. We wish them the best of luck on the night.”
