Progressive Building Society has announced the launch of its first ever green mortgage product which is available to customers who choose an energy efficient home. The new mortgage product is applicable for people purchasing an existing or new-build home with an Energy Efficiency Certificate (EPC) rating of A or B.

This is a review of the property’s energy efficiency, which is carried out when it is built or sold and is valid for 10 years.

The new product is part of Progressive’s pledge to help address the impact that climate change is having on communities across Northern Ireland by encouraging and supporting people to reduce their carbon footprint.

Recent research undertaken by OFGEM, the UK’s energy regulator, found that the majority of consumers across the UK (81%) are concerned about the impact of climate change, however energy usage in homes remains a significant contributor (*14%) to total UK carbon emissions.

Commenting on the product offering Darina Armstrong, Chief Executive, Progressive Building Society said, “As a financial institution that has played an integral role in Northern Ireland society for over 100 years, we are committed to taking positive action to protect the environment for future generations. Research and evidence confirm that there is a pressing need to support the reduction of carbon emissions from our homes and encouraging our customers to make sustainable choices will support this.

“That is why as a key part of our environmental pledge, we are launching this exciting new product which will encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint.”
