The Chief Executive of Artemis Technologies, Dr Iain Percy, OBE, will discuss how zero emission renewable energy can act as a catalyst for economic growth at a Belfast Metropolitan College organised webinar on July 1st. Iain is a four time Olympian, three- time Olympic medallist and double Olympic champion.

He is also a veteran of four America’s Cup challenges. Passionate about protecting the oceans, the economics graduate founded Artemis Technologies in 2017, with a mission to see how America’s Cup technology could play a part in the decarbonisation of the maritime industry. Iain has overseen the company’s transition from a sailing services provider, to an applied technologies company focusing on green innovations for marine transportation including the transformative Artemis eFoiler propulsion system.
On July 1, Dr Percy will speak on the topic: `Zero Emission Energy, The Catalyst for economic growth-Marine H2 Mobility’. The benefits of zero emission energy and the long term economy will be explored in the webinar, entitled: `Hydrogen-Getting the Green light, Driving Europe’s green recovery’.
Becoming the world’s first climate neutral continent by 2050 is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the EU’s economy and society. For the EU and UK to reach their target of climate neutrality, economies must decarbonise their energy systems to achieve ‘net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050’.
The Belfast Met led hydrogen project GenComm’s European partners and guest speakers will consider hydrogen in this context, and as the catalyst for driving Europe’s green recovery. They will also consider the hurdles that must be overcome for hydrogen to become a viable and accessible energy source for all.
Hydrogen produced from renewable energy is empowering Europe’s energy transition and is a powerful enabler for the energy transition, with benefits for both the energy system and end-use applications.
Looking forward to the webinar, GenComm Programme Manager Paul Mc Cormack, said: “The benefits of Hydrogen and the latest developments involving hydrogen are becoming more mainstream news everyday. In our webinar we want to explore further the future direction and use of H2 across Europe. We are thrilled to secure the services of Dr Iain Percy on the day to give us his unique insight into Marine Zero Emission mobility. We look forward to hearing Iain’s world view on the subject. I hope that these presentations will elaborate more on issues surrounding hydrogen such as public peception, the supply chain, technical challenges, legal barriers, government funding, subsidies, and cost.”
