Thirty-five of Northern Ireland’s most innovative property projects have been shortlisted for prestigious industry accolades – including the overall Project of the Year title – in the RICS Awards 2018, Northern Ireland. The annual awards recognise exemplary built projects that contribute positively to Northern Ireland and this year has seen the highest number of entries in their 28 year history.


Schemes of all sizes and budgets from all over Northern Ireland are now in with a chance of gaining acclaimed industry recognition along with the teams behind them.

A wide variety of projects have been shortlisted across the eight categories of the awards scheme – Building Conservation, Commercial sponsored by Sika, Community Benefit, Design through Innovation sponsored by Forbo, Infrastructure, Regeneration, Residential and Tourism and Leisure.

Twelve projects from across Northern Ireland have achieved the honour of being shortlisted in two categories including the new Titanic Hotel Belfast which is in the running for both Building Conservation and Tourism and Leisure awards.

Other Belfast projects which have been shortlisted for two awards include housing development One Sussex Place in Belfast  and The Weaving Works, which has seen the redevelopment and regeneration of Armagh House, a neglected 19th century former linen warehouse on Ormeau Avenue.

Connwsater Community Greenway in east Belfast is shortlisted in Community Benefit and Infrastructure categories.

County Londonderry projects including Fallahogey Studio in Kilrea, which has provided a new architectural studio in a rural setting, Foyle College, Ebrington Primary School and Nursery, and Deerpark Cottage in Bellaghy, a listed building which dates back to 1830, have also been shortlisted in two categories.

In Country Tyrone, Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex, a new model of healthcare provision, unique to the UK in how services are delivered on one site, has been shortlisted in Design Through Innovation and Infrastructure categories.

The Pump House in Portadown is in running for awards in the Regeneration and Building Conservation categories.

And in County Down, Rosemount Mews in Greyabbey, St Bronagh’s Primary School in Rostrevor and Newry Leisure Centre are also both in the running for two awards.

The RICS Awards 2018, Northern Ireland, will be presented at The La Mon Hotel & Spa, Belfast on 24 May.

All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final in November 2018.

The winners of each category will also be in with a chance of winning the top prize, the highly esteemed Project of the Year title, presented to the scheme which demonstrates overall outstanding best practice and an exemplary commitment to adding value to its local area.
