One of the fastest-growing technology recruitment companies in Ireland, Hayward Hawk, has signed a six-figure deal to launch a new joint-venture Professional Services offering with local businesswomen Lindsey McCracken and Gemma Murphy. Hayward Hawk was set up by Anthony Stuart, Richard Waterson and Stephen McDowell in 2016, backed by businessman, global recruitment expert and star of Dragons Den, James Caan, CBE.

Since then the business has experienced exponential growth progressing from start-up to a team of 20-strong recruiters operating out of their Belfast-based premises.

The new Hayward Hawk Professional Services partnership will extend the company’s offering from technology recruitment to professional services recruitment, covering; accountancy and finance, legal and compliance, sales and marketing and human resources (HR).

Welcoming the introduction of the dynamic duo, Director, Stephen McDowell said, “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Lindsey and Gemma, two of the best recruiters in Ireland, to the growing Hayward Hawk brand and launch of Hayward Hawks Professional Services.

“I worked with both Lindsey and Gemma back in 2011 and was immediately struck by their professionalism, knowledge of the industry and network of contacts.

“We kept in touch and when the opportunity presented itself to invest in these two highly accomplished businesswomen it was an easy decision”.

Chairman James Caan continued, “In my recent trip to Belfast, I had the pleasure of meeting the latest members of the team, along with the new joint venture.

“What struck me most was how rapidly the company has grown since starting out only three years ago.

“One of the key aspects to continued growth and success of any business is bringing in the right people.

James concluded: “It’s evident both with the existing team and with the addition of the new enterprise, they have achieved this in abundance”.

Belfast is firmly established and recognised as a hub for financial services technology investment, with more and more multinational companies setting up business in Belfast. Alongside the global players, high-quality talent and low labour attrition rates have allowed brands to quickly flourish, resulting in a diverse and active professional services market in the city and surrounding areas. This prompted Hayward Hawks’ decision to grow their offering to help these industries find the best talent available.

Lindsey McCracken and Gemma Murphy bring a wealth of talent to the new partnership having worked with some of the biggest and businesses across the globe. Their experience spans both London and Belfast and together have an enviable reputation in finding the best people for the best jobs.

Speaking about the launch, Founding Director of the new Hayward Hawks Professional Services brand, Lindsey McCracken, commented, “Today marks the start of a new journey for us and one which we are so excited to start.

“We have watched the growth of Hayward Hawks over the past three years with admiration and were so impressed by their operational infrastructure and company ethos which very much mirrors ours – they put their people at the heart of everything they do.”

Lindsay concluded: “This new partnership allows us to bring our expertise to a growing market and we look forward to bringing a fresh approach to recruitment”.

Co-Founder, Gemma Murphy went on to say, “This Irish professional services market is extremely buoyant with many large businesses recruiting at pace across a range of sectors, including; accountancy and finance, legal and compliance, sales and marketing and HR – all of which we have worked with collectively for over 30 years.

“This partnership allows us to offer something truly unique to the Irish market – a recruitment business focused on putting the candidate and client experience at the centre of what we do with director level expertise across the top industries in Ireland”.

According to Start-up Cities Index, in 2017 Belfast was voted among the top UK cities to start a new business, with salary costs lower than the rest of the UK and a commitment to reduce corporation tax to 12.5%. Additionally, it was the second most successful in the UK (after London) in attracting US tradeable services FDI projects.

With Northern Ireland’s population tipped to reach two million by 2026. 18.6% of the city’s population are younger than 15 years old, while 41.6% are under 30. The high standard of education, with the city hosting a Russell Group university (Queen’s University Belfast), is one of many factors that have led to its top global ranking for quality of living (Mercer), which has helped prompt a renewed commercial interest for companies wishing to set up base here. Other elements include affordable living costs, easy access to natural resources and low-cost office space.

Taking the decision to establish Hayward Hawk Professional Services as a separate business under the Hayward Hawk Group brand was an important one, Director Anthony Stuart, concludes: “We are delighted to welcome this dynamic duo to the business. And whilst the day-to-day running of the new company will operate independently, we will collaborate and utilise our shared skills for the benefit of the entire Group.

“Having five senior business leaders discussing strategy, best practice, global growth plans etc. is a huge advantage.

“The new structure also facilitates; regular companywide meetings, incentives and away days to encourage further knowledge sharing between consultants and ensures we maintain our hawk family culture”.
