Ambitious companies in Northern Ireland have just one week left to apply for this year’s Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme, which is run in association with Bank of Ireland. The programme showcases the success of indigenous companies and recognises the contribution they make to the all-island economy.

The network of Best Managed Companies developed over the last decade now stands at 137 businesses, with 22 companies achieving Best Managed status and joining the network for the first time in 2018, including five from Northern Ireland.

The new entrants included Co Down-based foodservice owners Around Noon, Derry-based house-builder Braidwater, electrical services company GES Group from Newtownabbey, design and manufacturing company EDGE Innovate from Dungannon and Ready Egg, a Fermanagh-based business which produces pasteurised liquid egg products.

A number of Northern Ireland-based companies have been awarded Best Managed status for several years in a row, including CDE Global, Mount Charles, Denroy Plastic and Henderson Group.

The deadline for entries to this year’s awards is September 28, 2018.

Glenn Roberts, partner at Deloitte said: “For ten years now, we have met and worked alongside some of the finest companies across the island of Ireland. Some were established after spotting opportunities during the downturn and others are long term family companies that have adapted to changes in the local and global economies to achieve significant growth.

“We’re proud of the contribution Northern Irish companies have made to the network and hope that more local companies will join the five who achieved ‘Best Managed’ status for the first time last year. We eagerly anticipate the further growth of this network in the coming awards programme and I’m very pleased to welcome Bank of Ireland as our partner again this year.”

The Best Managed Companies judging panel considers companies from every perspective, using a wide range of criteria including strategy, capability, commitment, financials and management performance and practices. They also evaluate companies and their performance in relation to their peers, and the industries that they are operating in, to determine management success.

Fred Smyth, Head of Commercial Finance at Bank of Ireland NI, said: “The Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards recognise and celebrate the contribution that indigenous companies make to the all-island economy and the team at Bank of Ireland are delighted to be associated with this important programme for the second year in a row.

“The Best Managed companies are drawn from a range of sectors which Bank of Ireland is actively supporting and the goals of the programme very much align to our own enterprise initiatives. We look forward to working with the companies who apply as they develop winning business plans.”

Those who are successful and progress through the awards process will receive customised feedback and coaching from Deloitte and Bank of Ireland. Their strategy and capabilities are assessed through the coaching process, with an independent view and validation on their strategic direction provided.

Winners also receive national and peer recognition, the opportunity to network at the gala awards ceremony and attend a symposium organised by the IMI.
