The Lagan Seahorses – a male voice choir made up of prominent local businesspeople – are marking their 10th anniversary with a performance at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall in aid of Action Mental Health (AMH) and Cooke Centenary Food Bank. Sponsored by tech firms Telefónica Tech UK&I and Continu Ltd, A Decade of Song will take place on November 19 in the Waterfront’s Studio with around 300 tickets now available to purchase.

The special event was due to take place in June 2020 but was postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. However, under the direction of Audrey Gillian and Melissa Murray, the choir maintained its focus, with rehearsals taking place virtually throughout the various lockdowns, and they are now delighted to be able to deliver the landmark event.

The well-known choir will bring some of their old favourites – including Uptown Girl and Chariots Coming – to the event along with a new repertoire to be revealed on the night. With performances from the Choir, the Ensemble, the Accidentals Quartet and guest soloist Glen Tweedie, it is sure there will be something for everyone.

Choir committee member Noel Brady said: “All proceeds from the concert will be going to the choir’s chosen charities, one of which is Cooke Centenary Food Bank run by Ormeau Churches Together who need our support now more than ever. Thanks to the two main sponsors Continu Ltd and Telefónica Tech UK&I and their generous support, it will ensure a generous donation to both charities will emanate from the evening.”

Peter Russell, choir member and Managing Director Ireland of sponsor Telefónica Tech UK&I, said: “Telefónica Tech UK&I is really pleased to support this event which will raise funds for two very important causes. I would encourage members of the tech sector, the wider business community and others to get behind the event. It promises to be a great fun night as well as an opportunity to support Action Mental Health (AMH) and Cooke Centenary Food Bank.”

The Lagan Seahorses started in 2010 when four friends who had gone to school together at RBAI came together to celebrate their joy of singing. It is now made up of around 40 local businessmen from a range of industry sectors across Northern Ireland. The Seahorses have raised funds for a range of good causes, including the NI Hospice and relief efforts in Ukraine

Cooke Foodstore is a cross-community project operated by Cooke Centenary Church in partnership with local churches Ballynafeigh Methodist, Good Shepherd R.C. and St John’s Presbyterian, Newtownbreda. All food and financial donations come from members of these very supportive congregations.
