Sixty five local people have celebrated overcoming their phobia of flying after attending easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course in Belfast.   The group took part in the one-day course, run by phobia expert Lawrence Leyton and senior easyJet pilot Chris Foster, who together explained how an aircraft works, dispelled common flying myths and taught participants a unique set of ‘mind tools’ to manage their fear.

Participants put the skills they’d learnt to the test and travelled onboard a special easyJet flight, which included a full commentary in the air from Captain Foster.

The winter season Belfast course now brings the total number of successful Fearless Flyer participants nationwide to more than 8,800 since launching almost seven years ago, with many hundreds of these being Belfast locals.

Scott Holmes, who took part in the course in Belfast said:

“In 2018 I had been on 20 flights up to October, when I then had a panic attack so I hadn’t been on a plane since then, until today. This course has completely restored my confidence in flying again and even more than that, it’s given me skills and tools to apply to any aspect of life – not just flying. A massive thank you to the easyJet Fearless Flyer team!”

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager said:

“Our Fearless Flyer courses have been a flyaway success with more than 95% of our participants overcoming their fear of flying.

“We’re really pleased that we’ve helped to change the lives of so many people already, and we look forward to welcoming our new Belfast fearless flyers onboard our flights soon from Belfast International Airport, where we have flown more than 60 million passengers.”

Mark Wein, Director of FOF Events which organises the Fearless Flyer courses, commented:

“I wish to congratulate all of our course participants this weekend in Belfast who took to the skies fearlessly following their successful completion of the course. It gives the whole team no greater pleasure than to see a plane full of smiling faces, many crying with happiness, take to the skies and achieve their dream of flying fearlessly. We’re all really looking forward to coming here again next Spring.”

easyJet’s Fearless Flyer course is one of the best priced aerophobia courses in the UK from just £199 per person. Participants can also invite a friend or family member with them on the flight if they wish from just £80.
